Apple Unveils M5 Chip With 4x AI Performance Boost
Apple introduces the M5 chip, featuring a next-generation GPU with Neural Accelerators that delivers over four times the peak AI compute performance of its predecessor. The new processor powers the updated 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro.
Apple announces the M5 chip, bringing a massive leap in artificial intelligence performance to its latest devices. Built using third-generation 3-nanometer technology, the new system on a chip features a next-generation 10-core GPU architecture that includes a dedicated Neural Accelerator in every single core.
This innovative GPU design enables over four times the peak compute performance for AI workloads compared to the M4 chip. Additionally, the M5 delivers up to 45 percent higher graphics performance with third-generation ray tracing, while a nearly 30 percent increase in unified memory bandwidth brings total throughput to an impressive 153GB/s.
The processor also boasts the world's fastest performance core within its up to 10-core CPU, providing up to 15 percent faster multithreaded performance than the previous generation. Alongside an improved 16-core Neural Engine, the M5 chip brings these significant power and efficiency gains to the new 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro, all of which are available for pre-order today.
