Apple Unveils Vision Pro Headset and New Macs at WWDC 2023
Apple reveals its first mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, alongside a larger 15-inch MacBook Air and powerful M2 Ultra Macs at its annual developer conference.
Apple kicks off WWDC 2023 by unveiling the Vision Pro, its highly anticipated mixed reality headset. The standalone device features powerful M2 and R1 chips, 4K displays for each eye, and advanced sensors that enable intuitive hand gesture controls. Running on the new visionOS platform, the headset allows users to interact with apps, make FaceTime calls, and play games in a spatial computing environment.
Beyond the headset, Apple introduces a 15-inch MacBook Air designed for everyday users who want a larger screen. This new laptop maintains the fanless M2 chip design of the 13-inch model but adds a 15.3-inch display and an impressive 18-hour battery life. Apple claims it is the world's thinnest 15-inch laptop, and it is available now starting at $1,299.
Apple also completes its transition to in-house silicon by launching upgraded Mac Studio and Mac Pro models powered by the new M2 Ultra chip. Additionally, the company reveals significant software updates across its entire ecosystem, including iOS 17. While the Vision Pro represents a bold leap into spatial computing with its steep $3,499 price tag, the new Macs offer more immediate upgrades for consumers.
