Apple Unveils Vision Pro Headset and New Macs at WWDC 2023
Apple reveals its $3,499 Vision Pro mixed-reality headset alongside new Mac computers and upcoming software updates for all its major devices.
Apple showcases its vision for the future at WWDC 2023 by revealing the Apple Vision Pro, a $3,499 mixed-reality headset that introduces a new product category called spatial computing. The device allows users to watch immersive movies, chat with floating video callers, and capture layered photos without completely blocking out the real world. By twisting a digital crown, wearers seamlessly transition between fully virtual environments and their actual surroundings.
The tech giant also completes its transition from Intel chips to Apple silicon by launching three new Mac computers during the keynote. These hardware updates accompany previews of the upcoming software releases that arrive on iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and Apple TV set-top boxes later this fall.
Running on the newly created visionOS, the Vision Pro relies on eye-tracking, hand gestures, and voice commands instead of traditional controllers. A separate battery pack powers the headset to keep the main device lightweight, though consumers have to wait until early 2024 to actually purchase the high-priced gadget.
