Apple Vision Pro Hits Stores Amid Limited App Ecosystem

Apple releases its highly anticipated Vision Pro headset featuring a ski goggle-like design and a custom visionOS operating system. The device launches with a surprisingly small number of native apps, missing major platforms like Netflix and YouTube.

Apple officially releases the Vision Pro, its ambitious augmented reality headset that runs on the new visionOS operating system. The device features a ski goggle-like design with a tinted front panel, a built-in cooling fan, and a light seal that blocks out ambient light to keep users fully immersed in their digital environment.

The headset boasts an impressive 23 million pixels across two displays and includes built-in earbuds that support Dolby Atmos and spatial audio ray tracing. Apple partners with Zeiss to offer custom magnetic prescription lenses, while infrared cameras track the wearer's eyes and external cameras map the surrounding room.

Despite the advanced hardware, the Vision Pro launches with a surprisingly limited native app library, notably missing major services like Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube. Early adopters still have access to 3D movies, Disney+, and 180-degree spatial recordings as Apple pushes to establish its footprint in the mixed-reality market.
