Apple Watch Series 9 Becomes Company's First Carbon Neutral Device

Apple introduces the Series 9 Watch as its first carbon neutral product by significantly overhauling its manufacturing and shipping processes. The company powers all Watch manufacturing with 100 percent clean electricity and invests in renewable energy projects to offset the power consumers use to charge the device over its lifetime.
The new smartwatch relies heavily on recycled materials, featuring aluminum cases and recycled metals like tin, gold, and cobalt inside its components. Additionally, Apple replaces its leather bands with a popular sport loop that contains 82 percent recycled yarn to further minimize environmental impact.
Shipping logistics also play a major role in this environmental effort, as Apple transitions to 100 percent fiber-based packaging that is smaller and allows 25 percent more watches to fit on each shipping vessel. By combining these initiatives to cut emissions by 78 percent with purchased forest and wetland carbon credits, Apple officially eliminates the remaining carbon footprint of the device.
