Apple's Tim Cook Dismisses RCS, Tells Android User to Buy an iPhone

Apple CEO Tim Cook shows no interest in adopting the Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard, a modern upgrade to traditional SMS that enables high-quality video sharing and typing indicators. When an audience member at the Code 2022 conference asks about adopting RCS so his mother can view his videos properly, Cook bluntly tells him to just buy his mother an iPhone.
Google actively pressures Apple to adopt RCS and recently launches a campaign demanding that Apple "fix texting" to end the ongoing blue and green bubble wars. Google argues that iPhone and Android users currently suffer from blurry videos, broken group chats, and missing read receipts simply because Apple refuses to embrace modern texting standards.
Cook claims that Apple users are not demanding RCS support, allowing the company to safely ignore the push for cross-platform compatibility. By keeping iMessage a closed system, Apple effectively uses the social stigma of the green bubble as a tool to encourage more people to buy iPhones rather than use Android devices.
