Arm Holdings Surges 25% in Massive Nasdaq Debut

Chip designer Arm Holdings sees its stock jump nearly 25% on its first day of trading, pushing its valuation close to $60 billion.

Arm Holdings experiences a highly successful initial public offering on the Nasdaq, with its stock jumping nearly 25% to close at $63.59 per share. The chip design firm, which sells shares under the ticker symbol "ARM," starts trading at $56.10 after pricing its IPO at the top of its expected range at $51 per share. This strong market debut values the British company at almost $60 billion and represents a major financial win for its parent company, SoftBank.

Despite the massive valuation, Arm trades at a price-to-earnings multiple of over 110 based on recent profits, putting it on par with Nvidia's valuation without matching Nvidia's explosive growth forecast. The company's chief financial officer highlights a robust business model that relies heavily on ongoing royalty revenue, noting that half of its $1.68 billion in royalty income comes from chip products released between 1990 and 2012.

Looking ahead, Arm projects that the total market for its chip designs will reach approximately $250 billion by 2025, driven by increasing demand in data centers and automobiles. The firm's foundational technology currently powers nearly every smartphone chip globally. To solidify its market position, Arm secures $735 million from a syndicate of strategic investors that includes tech giants like Apple, Google, Nvidia, Samsung, AMD, and Intel.
