Arm Unveils Next-Gen Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU for Premium Smartphones
Arm introduces its new suite of premium chip designs, featuring the Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU, to boost smartphone performance and machine learning capabilities. These updates promise significant gains in speed, power efficiency, and mobile gaming experiences.
Arm announces its latest premium chip designs for smartphones, headlined by the new Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU. The Cortex-A77 delivers a 20 percent increase in instructions-per-clock performance over the previous generation while maintaining strong power efficiency. This new CPU also features hardware and software optimizations that significantly enhance machine learning capabilities directly on the main processor.
Recognizing that 85 percent of current smartphones run machine learning tasks solely on CPUs or CPU and GPU combinations, Arm focuses heavily on on-device AI. The new Mali-G77 GPU represents the company's first architecture based on the Valhall design, providing a 1.4x performance boost over its predecessor. It also offers 30 percent better energy efficiency and executes machine learning inference 60 percent faster to support advanced mobile gaming, VR, and AR.
Rounding out the announcement is an update to Arm's dedicated machine learning platform, Project Trillium. The company doubles the energy efficiency of this neural processor and scales its performance to support up to 8 cores and 32 TOP/s. Together, these hardware improvements give developers the necessary foundation to create more innovative and demanding software experiences for future premium devices.
