BlackRock and Microsoft Team Up for Massive $30 Billion AI Infrastructure Fund

BlackRock and Microsoft are joining forces with MGX to create a $30 billion fund dedicated to building AI data centers and energy infrastructure. Nvidia also lends its expertise to tackle the growing power demands of artificial intelligence.

BlackRock and Microsoft are joining forces to launch a massive $30 billion fund focused on artificial intelligence infrastructure. The investment powerhouse is collaborating with Microsoft and the Abu Dhabi-backed investment firm MGX to finance the construction of data centers and the energy systems required to power AI technologies. This fund ranks among the largest ever seen on Wall Street and highlights the immense financial backing behind the AI boom.

The initiative relies heavily on BlackRock's newly acquired infrastructure investment unit, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP). BlackRock purchased GIP for $12.5 billion earlier this year, and the unit now plays a central role in directing this enormous capital toward physical tech assets. By leveraging GIP's experience, the partnership aims to build out the foundational structures necessary to support the next generation of AI advancements.

Chip giant Nvidia is also contributing to the project by providing its specialized knowledge regarding the heavy energy demands of AI hardware. As artificial intelligence models grow larger and more complex, the power required to run them continues to surge, making energy infrastructure a critical bottleneck for the industry. This strategic collaboration ensures that the fund addresses both the computing facilities and the power grids needed to sustain the rapidly expanding AI sector.
