Bluesky Rolls Out Trending Topics Feature to Global Users
Bluesky introduces a new trending topics feature across its desktop and mobile apps, giving users an optional way to discover popular discussions. The social network ensures user control by respecting existing muted words and providing a simple toggle to disable the feature entirely.
Bluesky introduces a trending topics feature to its global user base of over 25 million people just in time for the holidays. Desktop users spot these trends in the right sidebar, while mobile app users access them by tapping the search button. Currently, this discovery tool operates only in English as the platform gathers feedback on this initial release.
The social network prioritizes user control by carrying over existing muted words directly into the trending feed. This means any phrases or topics a user previously blocks do not appear in the trending list. Additionally, users who prefer a cleaner interface easily disable the feature entirely by unchecking the "Enable trending topics" option in the Content and Media settings menu.
This official launch comes after third-party clients like Graysky implemented similar functionality last year. Bluesky now joins competitors like Threads, which already rolled out trending topics to U.S. users earlier this year. The company acknowledges this is just the first version of the feature and promises further improvements based on user reactions.
