Bluesky Surpasses 9 Million Users Following X Ban in Brazil

The decentralized social network Bluesky gains 3 million new users, largely driven by a Brazilian court ruling against X. The rapid influx causes occasional technical hiccups as the platform promises upcoming video support.

Bluesky announces that its total user count surpasses 9 million after adding 3 million new users in just one week. This massive 50% increase in the platform's user base directly follows a Brazilian court order that bans X, formerly known as Twitter, within the country.

The sudden surge in registrations pushes Bluesky to the top of the free iPhone app charts in Brazil, where it currently sits at number two behind Meta's Threads. According to the company, an overwhelming 85% of these recent new users come from Brazil.

Accommodating this rapid expansion presents challenges, as the sudden influx of members causes occasional technical issues on the platform. Despite these growing pains, Bluesky reassures its expanding community that highly requested video support is coming soon to the independent, venture-backed network.
