Bluesky Vows Not to Train AI on User Posts Amid X Policy Shift
As X implements new terms allowing AI training on public posts, surging rival Bluesky explicitly promises it has no intention of using user content for generative AI models.
Bluesky clearly states that it has no intention of using user content to train generative AI tools. This announcement arrives just as X implements new terms of service that allow the platform to use public posts for machine learning and AI training. Bluesky acknowledges the concerns of artists and creators who make their home on the network and want to protect their work.
The company clarifies that while it does utilize AI internally for content moderation and its algorithmic "Discover" feed, none of these systems are generative AI models trained on user content. This starkly contrasts with X, where posting now grants the company a license to analyze user-provided information to train both generative and other types of artificial intelligence models.
Bluesky currently experiences a massive surge in growth, welcoming over 1 million new sign-ups in a single day and reaching a total of 17.14 million users. This wave of new users follows the U.S. presidential election as people look for alternatives to X. Despite this impressive momentum, Bluesky still trails significantly behind Meta's Threads, which boasts over 275 million monthly active users.
