The Boring Company actively expands its workforce as it prepares to build an underground people mover in Las Vegas. The startup posts more than a dozen job openings in Las Vegas and another 15 positions at its California headquarters. This hiring surge follows a $48.7 million commercial contract to construct and operate the transit system beneath the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The project requires the construction of twin vehicle tunnels and one pedestrian tunnel stretching less than a mile. Three underground stations will feature elevators or escalators for passenger access. To complete this engineering-heavy endeavor, the company seeks civil and tunnel engineers, a construction manager, and a lead architect.
Once finished by December 2020, the system uses modified Tesla vehicles to transport passengers at high speeds. The fleet includes standard autonomous Tesla Model X and Model 3 vehicles, along with a high-occupancy Model X chassis that holds up to 16 people. This expansion shows the startup is scaling up beyond its original status as a side project.
