A new video from Boston Dynamics showcases a modified SpotMini robot dog that successfully opens a door for another robot. The footage, which gains over 1.7 million views in less than 24 hours, features an unmodified SpotMini summoning its companion to help bypass a closed door.
The modified robotic canine positions itself in front of the obstacle and uses a specialized arm extending from its head to turn the handle. After unlocking the door, the clever robot holds it open to allow both machines to pass safely through to the other side.
Boston Dynamics describes the SpotMini as a small, four-legged robot that fits comfortably in an office or home environment. Weighing just 25 kilograms, or 30 kilograms with the attached arm, the all-electric robot operates for up to 90 minutes on a single battery charge.
