Announced during the Hyundai press conference at CES 2026, the collaboration aims to develop the world's most advanced robot foundation model to handle general-purpose human needs. Google DeepMind senior director Carolina Parada states that researchers integrate cutting-edge AI with the new Atlas robots to fulfill this ambitious vision.

The partnership leverages Google's Gemini Robotics models, which allow robots to perceive, reason, use tools, and interact with people across different hardware platforms. This AI integration addresses a critical gap as Boston Dynamics moves Atlas from an athletic prototype to a commercial product. The new Atlas robot is already in production and heads to the Hyundai factory in Savannah, Georgia, building on the real-world success of Boston Dynamics' Spot and Stretch robots.
