Brave Search Integrates AI Chat for Follow-Up Questions

Brave introduces a new AI chat mode for follow-up questions directly within Brave Search. Building on its existing "Answer with AI" summaries, the company now places a chat bar underneath these initial overviews so users can dive deeper into a topic without executing a completely new search.
This conversational capability gives Brave an edge over Google, which offers similar AI-generated overviews but currently lacks a built-in way to ask contextual follow-up questions. As users ask additional questions, the chatbot provides cited sources alongside its answers to ensure transparency regarding where the information originates.
The new feature combines the strengths of traditional search engines, such as fetching links and images, with the contextual exploration of AI chatbots. Powered by a mix of open and internal large language models, the tool processes over 11 million daily answers while ensuring that Brave does not store queries or profile its users.
