Brex Launches Cash Management Account to Challenge Traditional Banks
Fintech startup Brex introduces Brex Cash, a digital cash management account that aims to replace traditional business bank accounts for startups. The new product offers no-fee transactions, points rewards, and a 1.6% yield on deposits.
Brex unveils Brex Cash, a new cash management account designed to replace traditional bank accounts for startups. The company builds its core banking infrastructure from scratch to eliminate third-party processing fees and modernize antiquated financial systems. In partnership with Radius Bank, this digital account integrates directly with the existing Brex corporate card.
The new account allows business customers to send and receive payments instantly without incurring any transaction fees. Instead of charging users, Brex rewards customers with points for using the service, which they redeem for cash back, travel, or air miles. Additionally, account holders earn a 1.6% yield on their deposited funds.
Unlike traditional banks, Brex operates entirely online without physical branches and protects user funds through SIPC insurance rather than the FDIC. This insurance covers up to $500,000 per customer, while Brex invests the deposited money into a money market mutual fund of U.S. treasury bonds to ensure maximum security. Co-founder Henrique Dubugras expresses hope that new startups never need to open a traditional bank account at all.
