Cadillac unveils the production version of the Celestiq, a hand-built, bespoke electric fastback sedan designed to propel the automaker back to the top of the luxury market. The vehicle closely mirrors the concept shown earlier this year and carries a staggering starting price of $300,000. Cadillac executives state that this flagship model serves as a critical step in the brand's ongoing mission to earn back its historic "Standard of the World" title from German competitors.
The Celestiq embraces a massive land yacht aesthetic reminiscent of the 1960s, weighing between 5,635 and 6,217 pounds, which is on par with the brand's heavy Escalade SUV. Despite initial plans to limit production to just 500 units, Cadillac now reveals it intends to build the Celestiq for years to come. Manufacturing takes place at GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, where skilled workers assemble up to two of these ultra-luxury vehicles per week.
This flagship sedan blends classic Cadillac custom coachwork traditions with modern technology by utilizing GM's Ultium battery platform in a unique stepped layout across the underbody. While Cadillac currently produces capable performance sedans like the CTS-V and ATS, the brand has struggled to capture the modern American luxury buyer. Company leadership views the highly customizable, all-electric Celestiq as the ultimate halo car to change that narrative and redefine the brand's future.
