An internal memo obtained by The Globe and Mail states that Huawei offers globally leading innovation and comprehensive security measures. This public support stands in direct contrast to a growing global backlash against the Chinese tech giant.
The United States, Australia, and New Zealand all block or restrict Huawei equipment over fears that the company poses espionage risks on behalf of Beijing. As part of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network, Canada faces heavy pressure from these allies to exclude Huawei from its 5G infrastructure. Meanwhile, US prosecutors reportedly prepare criminal charges against Huawei, and President Trump considers a broader boycott of Chinese telecom firms.
Despite these mounting international pressures, Canada continues its security review ahead of the 5G rollout.
