By catching sorting errors immediately, the technology prevents contaminated recyclables from entering the waste stream.

Beyond simply sorting trash, the TrashBot system acts as a connected data hub that sends fullness alerts to janitorial staff and displays video content on a built-in screen. Cloud connectivity allows the entire fleet of smart bins to learn and improve their sorting capabilities over time. The Colorado-based startup raises $4.5 million in a Series A funding round led by Melco International Development Limited to scale its operations.
