Cloudflare Introduces Warp, a Free Mobile VPN Designed to Boost Speed
Cloudflare launches Warp, a free mobile VPN service that protects user traffic while actually improving internet speeds. The service is available now through the existing 1.1.1.1 app via a waitlist.
Cloudflare introduces Warp, a new mobile VPN service that promises to protect user internet traffic while simultaneously improving connection speeds. Continuing its tradition of launching new products on April 1st, the company builds this new offering on the foundation of its popular 1.1.1.1 DNS service. Unlike traditional VPNs that often slow down connections, Warp utilizes technology acquired from Neumob to optimize mobile performance.
The service is specifically designed to handle the challenging conditions of mobile browsing, such as switching between Wi-Fi and LTE networks or navigating public captive portals. Warp runs on a UDP-based protocol and leverages Cloudflare's massive global server network to connect users within milliseconds. Users access this tool through the existing 1.1.1.1 app, where they join a waitlist to activate the feature.
Cloudflare emphasizes strict privacy, promising not to collect user-identifiable data or sell browsing history while undergoing regular third-party audits. A premium tier called Warp+ is also on the horizon, offering even faster speeds through a virtual private backbone for a low monthly fee. The company is currently taking sign-ups through the iOS and Google Play app stores and confirms that a desktop version is actively in development.
