Coinbase Wins SEC Approval for Nasdaq Direct Listing on April 14
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase receives regulatory clearance to trade on the Nasdaq later this month, marking a major milestone for the digital asset industry.
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase receives regulatory clearance from the Securities and Exchange Commission to begin public trading on April 14. The company marks a major milestone for the digital asset industry as the first major direct listing on the Nasdaq exchange.
Instead of issuing new stock, this direct listing allows existing stakeholders to sell nearly 115 million shares of Class A common stock under the ticker symbol COIN. An updated filing from last month indicates an implied private market valuation of approximately $68 billion for the trading platform.
This regulatory green light highlights the growing mainstream acceptance of cryptocurrencies among traditional banks and institutional investors. Coinbase currently serves over 43 million users across more than 100 countries, though the company warns that potential declines in bitcoin value pose a significant risk factor to its business.
