CrowdStrike Faces Shareholder Class Action Over Global Outage Stock Drop

Shareholders file a class action lawsuit against CrowdStrike, alleging the company hid deficient testing controls before a flawed update caused a massive global system outage and a significant stock price drop.

Shareholders file a proposed class action lawsuit against CrowdStrike over a massive July 2024 global system outage that causes the cybersecurity company's stock price to drop significantly. The lawsuit claims that statements from CrowdStrike and its executives assuring investors that the Falcon software platform was properly validated and tested prove false and misleading.

The legal action follows a catastrophic July 19 outage triggered by a single flawed software update that crashes millions of computers, disrupts airlines and hospitals, and causes billions in damages worldwide. Cybersecurity experts point out that CrowdStrike takes insufficient precautions with its updates, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit alleges that CrowdStrike fails to disclose to investors that it implements deficient controls and does not properly test updates before rolling them out to customers. Furthermore, the case claims the company is not forthcoming about the substantial risk that such an inadequate testing process poses to its reputation and financial standing.
