Crypto Wallet BRD Secures $15M to Expand Into Asian Markets

Mobile cryptocurrency wallet BRD raises $15 million in a Series B round led by SBI Crypto Investment to fund team growth and Asian expansion. The company currently boasts 1.8 million global users and $6 billion in stored digital assets.

Mobile cryptocurrency wallet BRD raises $15 million in Series B funding led by SBI Crypto Investment, a subsidiary of Japanese financial services giant SBI Holdings. The company plans to use the capital to grow its product and engineering teams and to expand its footprint in Japan and across Asia. This strategic investment brings BRD's total funding to $55 million and positions the company firmly within the Asian market.

This funding round stands out because it occurs during a broader cryptocurrency downturn that scares away many speculative investors. Despite these challenging market conditions, BRD reports that it doubles its total install base in 2018 to reach 1.8 million global users. The wallet currently holds the equivalent of $6 billion, mostly in Bitcoin and Ethereum, and sees a 24 percent increase in monthly active users after integrating stablecoins.

In addition to the funding news, BRD announces a new partnership with Coinify that allows European users to purchase cryptocurrencies directly through their bank accounts. Company leadership remains focused on the core mission of creating a single, global digital currency that functions like the open internet, rather than catering to short-term speculators. This latest financial backing and European partnership reinforce BRD's commitment to long-term global growth and mainstream adoption.
