Daqri Shuts Down as Apple Updates App Store Billing
Augmented reality headset maker Daqri closes its doors, while Apple introduces a new grace period for lapsed App Store subscriptions.
Augmented reality startup Daqri officially shuts down its cloud and smart-glasses hardware platforms by the end of September. The heavily funded enterprise AR company pursues an asset sale, joining other struggling headset makers like Osterhout Design Group and Meta that recently close or sell off assets.
Apple introduces a new grace period option for lapsed App Store subscriptions, giving developers a way to maintain user access while Apple attempts to collect overdue payments. Previously, any immediate payment failure cuts customers off from subscription-based app features.
Other major tech developments include SmileDirectClub making its Nasdaq debut, Element AI raising $151 million to help companies build AI solutions, and Vudu adding a Family Play feature that automatically skips scenes containing violence, substance abuse, or nudity.
