DeepMind Opens Massive Protein Structure Database With Full Human Proteome

DeepMind releases a vast open-access database of protein structures predicted by its AlphaFold AI system. The database includes predicted structures for the entire human proteome alongside numerous other organisms.

DeepMind releases an unprecedented open-access database containing over 350,000 protein structure predictions generated by its AlphaFold artificial intelligence system. This massive release provides researchers worldwide with free access to highly accurate 3D models of proteins, eliminating years of traditional experimental work for many biological molecules.

The newly published database notably includes predicted structures for the complete human proteome, covering nearly all proteins expressed by the human body. In addition to human biology, the database features structures for 20 additional organisms that are heavily studied in scientific research, such as mice, fruit flies, and yeast.

Scientists expect this open-source initiative to dramatically accelerate biological research and drug discovery by making structural biology universally accessible. DeepMind plans to expand the database further in the future with the goal of eventually mapping the vast majority of all known proteins, fundamentally changing how life sciences operate.
