Dell Offloads RSA Security Division to Symphony Technology Group for $2.075 Billion
Dell Technologies sells its legacy security subsidiary RSA to a consortium led by Symphony Technology Group for over $2 billion. The move allows Dell to focus on modernizing its overall security strategy.
Dell Technologies sells legacy cybersecurity firm RSA to a consortium led by Symphony Technology Group for $2.075 billion. The investment group, which includes Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board and AlpInvest Partners, acquires well-known RSA products like SecurID, NetWitness, and Archer, along with the popular annual RSA security conference.
The sale comes as Dell seeks greater flexibility to modernize its company-wide security strategy, as RSA's traditional approach no longer aligns with the parent company's current direction. Dell originally obtained RSA through its massive $67 billion acquisition of EMC in 2015, which itself had purchased the security firm for $2.1 billion back in 2006.
Both companies frame the divestiture as a positive step for their respective futures. Dell executives emphasize the opportunity to focus on integrated innovation, while RSA leadership views the separation as a chance to concentrate solely on managing digital risk for customers. The transaction remains subject to standard regulatory approvals before it officially closes.
