Dell unveils two intriguing prototype devices at CES 2020 called the Concept Ori and Concept Duet, signaling the company's entry into the dual-screen and foldable PC market. The tech giant keeps specific hardware details, such as processors, screen resolutions, and battery life, completely under wraps. Instead of promising a commercial release, Dell simply wants to demonstrate that it possesses the engineering expertise to build these complex machines.
The Concept Duet takes inspiration from Microsoft's Surface Neo by featuring two 13.3-inch displays connected by a 360-degree hinge. Despite being an early prototype, the device feels surprisingly sturdy and refined, and it pairs with a physical keyboard accessory that covers half of the bottom screen. Dell remains highly protective of the exact dimensions, but the hands-on experience shows a surprisingly polished foundation for a dual-screen laptop.
Taking a different approach, the Concept Ori features a single 13.4-inch P-OLED screen that folds in on itself like a piece of origami. Dell's design team highlights the hinge as the most challenging component to engineer, as it must move fluidly in concert with the flexible display. Like other folding devices on the market, the Ori exhibits a slight crease in the middle of the screen when laid flat.
