The airline cancels thousands of flights throughout the weekend, hitting 32% of its schedule on Friday and 36% on Sunday. FlightAware data shows Delta suffers the heaviest impact among domestic carriers, with 817 additional flights, or 22% of its routes, canceled by Monday afternoon.
This massive technology failure occurs during the busiest travel weekend of the summer, a time when Delta reports booked loads exceeding 90 percent. While the global IT crisis also affects banks and government agencies, the crowded airports vividly highlight the deep vulnerabilities within the aviation industry's technology infrastructure.
