Disney sells off mobile game studios FoxNext Games and Cold Iron Studios to Scopely, just months after acquiring them in the Fox deal. The transfer includes hit title MARVEL Strike Force while Disney keeps other Fox-licensed games.
Disney sells FoxNext Games Los Angeles and Cold Iron Studios to mobile game company Scopely. These studios originally come from Disney's massive $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. The financial details of this new sale remain undisclosed, though Disney clarifies that other Fox IP-licensed games stay under its own umbrella.
The acquisition centers heavily on the massive success of MARVEL Strike Force, which brings in $150 million in its first year and boasts over 26 million downloads. Scopely also gains access to the upcoming Avatar: Pandora Rising and an in-development Alien game tied to Cold Iron Studios. Notably, the narrative game Storyscape is excluded from this transaction.
Scopely expresses high enthusiasm for the purchase, praising the player-first approach of the FoxNext team. This move aligns with Scopely's ongoing expansion strategy through mergers and acquisitions, following its previous purchase of DIGIT Game Studios. The company currently generates over a billion dollars in lifetime revenue and continues to grow its portfolio of top-grossing mobile titles.
