Disney Streaming Services Exceed Early Subscriber Expectations

Disney reveals impressive subscriber growth across its streaming portfolio, including ESPN+, Hulu, and the newly launched Disney+ platform. The media giant appears well on its way to achieving its long-term direct-to-consumer goals ahead of schedule.

Disney experiences a highly successful launch for its new Disney+ streaming platform, adding to the already impressive growth of its existing services, Hulu and ESPN+. A recent regulatory filing shows that the media powerhouse is on track to meet its long-term direct-to-consumer goals much faster than anticipated.

ESPN+ shows rapid momentum by closing out fiscal 2019 with 3 million subscribers and currently holding over 3.5 million paid users. This speedy growth puts Disney well ahead of its goal to reach 8 to 12 million ESPN+ subscribers by the end of fiscal 2024.

Hulu also demonstrates strong performance by reaching 29 million paid subscribers by the end of September. Disney expects this upward trend to continue as the company offers a discounted bundle that combines Hulu, ESPN+, and the newly launched Disney+.
