Dodge reveals the Charger Daytona SRT Concept, an all-electric two-door muscle car that closely resembles the gas-powered version set for discontinuation. Unveiled at the M1 Concourse in Michigan during Dodge Speed Week, this concept serves as a near-production placeholder for the official EV release arriving in 2024. A company spokesperson notes that while technically labeled a concept, the vehicle is very close to its final production form.
The automaker highlights three key innovations designed to disrupt the battery electric segment: a front R-wing aerodynamic pass-through, an electro-mechanical multispeed transmission, and a surprisingly loud exhaust system. Dodge installs a custom exhaust on the EV that pushes sound through a rear amplifier and tuning chamber to reach 126 decibels, matching the roar of a traditional Hellcat. The unique R-wing pays homage to the original Charger Daytona by integrating into the hood to improve downforce.
Dodge brand CEO Tim Kuniskis states that the Charger Daytona aims to redefine American muscle entirely by exceeding the power, performance, and sound of the outgoing SRT Hellcat. The concept features an 800-volt propulsion system specially branded as Banshee. While Dodge withholds pricing details for now, the automaker makes it clear that this electric vehicle carries the original Charger DNA into a new era.
