DoorDash and Meta Test Delivery Service for Facebook Marketplace Items
DoorDash and Meta are currently testing a new delivery feature for Facebook Marketplace that allows drivers to pick up and drop off eligible items. The partnership aims to make peer-to-peer selling safer and more convenient while helping DoorDash expand beyond food delivery.
DoorDash partners with Meta to test a new delivery feature for Facebook Marketplace, aiming to eliminate the awkwardness of in-person exchanges with strangers. Through DoorDash Drive, the company's business-to-business delivery service, drivers pick up and drop off eligible items for buyers and sellers. This test is currently running in select cities across the United States.
Eligible items for delivery must fit inside the trunk of a standard car and originate within 15 miles of the buyer, with drivers completing the drop-offs within 48 hours. This initiative aligns with DoorDash's ongoing mission to expand its services beyond restaurant food, building on previous partnerships with retailers like Sephora, JCPenney, and Rite Aid. The feature provides a safer alternative for sellers who hesitate to invite strangers into their homes and assists buyers who lack adequate transportation.
This collaboration allows Meta to broaden Facebook Marketplace's local delivery options beyond its current partnership with Dolly, which operates in just 45 cities. Furthermore, the move helps DoorDash stay competitive against rivals like Uber Eats and Grubhub, the latter of which recently secured a major partnership with Amazon. As Meta faces challenges in attracting younger users to its core social platform, adding convenient services like seamless local delivery makes the Marketplace ecosystem more appealing to a broader audience.
