Duolingo and Khan Academy Adopt GPT-4 for AI Tutoring Features

Leading EdTech platforms Duolingo and Khan Academy are integrating OpenAI's GPT-4 model to provide personalized AI tutoring and conversational practice to students.

Duolingo and Khan Academy integrate OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model into their educational platforms to enhance the learning experience. These two organizations are among the first educational outlets to adopt the advanced artificial intelligence to provide more personalized, interactive instruction for students.

Duolingo launches a premium subscription tier called Duolingo Max, which includes two new GPT-4 powered features. Role Play acts as an AI conversation partner for real-world practice, while Explain My Answer breaks down language rules when a user makes a mistake. These tools are currently available for Spanish and French courses.

Khan Academy introduces Khanmigo, an AI-powered assistant that serves as a virtual tutor for students and a classroom assistant for teachers. The non-profit organization runs this feature as a pilot program and explores additional uses for the technology, such as helping educators tailor learning for individual students and create custom instructional materials.
