French health tech startup Ellcie Healthy develops AI-powered smartglasses that detect drowsy driving to prevent car crashes. The glasses feature 15 sensors that track eye blinks, head nods, and yawns to accurately monitor a driver's fatigue level in real time.
When the system detects drowsiness, the smartglasses issue immediate alerts through side flashes or buzzing sounds depending on how tired the driver is. The lightweight frames work independently or connect to a smartphone, and they easily accommodate standard corrective lenses for everyday use.
Winning the Road Safety Innovation Award in 2018 and appearing at CES 2019, the glasses currently cost around $250 in France. Founded by Philippe Peyrard, the company plans to add fall detection capabilities to the smartglasses in future updates.
