Elon Musk decides to let Donald Trump back on Twitter after running a public poll on the platform. Musk tweets "The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated," officially ending the ex-president's exile from the social media network.
Twitter originally bans Trump permanently on January 8, 2021, citing his role in the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol and the risk of further inciting violence. The platform now reactivates his @realDonaldTrump account along with his archive of past tweets.
Notably, Trump's reinstated account does not include his January 6 video message to the rioters where he tells them to go home and calls them very special. It remains unclear if or when the former president intends to post new content on the platform.
