Elon Musk reinstates former President Donald Trump's Twitter account after conducting a public poll on the platform. A narrow majority of users votes in favor of restoring the profile, prompting Musk to declare that the people have spoken and reverse the ban that Twitter implemented nearly two years ago.

This decision directly contradicts Musk's earlier promise to convene a content moderation council before making major account reinstatements. Twitter originally banned Trump following the January 6 Capitol breach, citing his tweets for glorifying violence, a move that other major tech companies quickly copied at the time.

Despite regaining access to his account and its nearly 90 million followers, Trump expresses little interest in returning to Twitter. He states he sees no reason to use the platform again, choosing instead to focus on his own rival social media venture, Truth Social.
