Elon Musk Rejects Twitter Board Seat, Leaving Door Open for Takeover
Elon Musk declines an invitation to join Twitter's board of directors, allowing him to bypass ownership limits and potentially pursue a larger stake in the company.
Elon Musk officially turns down an invitation to join Twitter's board of directors, just days after CEO Parag Agrawal announces the appointment. Agrawal states that the company believes having Musk as a fiduciary is the best path forward, but the Tesla CEO chooses to walk away from the formal position.
By rejecting the board seat, Musk avoids a strict ownership cap that limits directors to a maximum 14.9% stake in the social media platform. Without this restriction, the billionaire retains the freedom to expand his current 9.2% investment and potentially amass enough shares to pursue a hostile takeover.
Analysts note that Twitter remains highly vulnerable to outside pressure because its founders lack special voting control. Meanwhile, Musk continues to publicly critique the platform, questioning if Twitter is dying and suggesting new features like an edit button and Dogecoin payments for premium services.
