Wing earns this air carrier certificate by proving its operations meet the rigorous safety requirements set by the FAA. The company's electric drones feature 14 top-mounted propellers and carry payloads of up to 3.3 pounds, allowing them to deliver everyday items like food, medicine, and over-the-counter supplies to customers' lawns.
This milestone puts Google's parent company in direct competition with Amazon and its Prime Air delivery system. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao emphasizes that safety remains the top priority as the government integrates unmanned drones into the national economy, while Wing touts the technology's ability to reduce road congestion and carbon emissions.
