This aggressive moderation prompts a Taliban spokesman to publicly criticize Facebook for censorship and stifling their freedom of speech during a press conference in Kabul.
The tech giant clarifies that it removes accounts maintained by or on behalf of the Taliban, along with any content that praises, supports, or represents the group. Facebook emphasizes that it does not make independent decisions about recognizing national governments and instead follows the authority of the international community regarding such designations.
