Facebook Expands Crisis Response Hub With WhatsApp Integration
Facebook updates its Crisis Response tools to include WhatsApp messaging support and first-hand information sharing. The company also expands its Data for Good disaster maps to better assist local and federal relief agencies.
Facebook expands its Crisis Response hub with new features designed to help communities during disasters. The platform, which already supports tools like Safety Check and Community Help across 300 crises in 80 countries, now allows users in affected areas to share first-hand information about events like building collapses or road closures.
The updated system includes light integration with WhatsApp, enabling people to request or offer help directly through the popular messaging app instead of relying solely on Facebook Messenger. This change provides an additional communication channel for those navigating emergency situations.
Facebook also updates its Data for Good tools by improving disaster and displacement maps to account for commute patterns and tourist populations. Thanks to new partnerships with organizations like Direct Relief and the NAPSG Foundation, the company now delivers these aggregated, anonymized data insights to state, local, and federal relief officials.
