Facebook Launches Dedicated News Tab Focused on Local Journalism
Facebook introduces a new curated News tab that highlights personalized stories, local journalism, and original reporting. The platform relies on human editors rather than just algorithms to select fact-checked content.
Facebook rolls out Facebook News, a dedicated tab that highlights relevant news stories for individual users. The initial test runs until sometime in 2020 and delivers a mix of publisher choices and top national stories of the day.
The feature offers deep personalization by categorizing stories into topics like business, entertainment, and science. Users can link their paid news subscriptions directly to the platform and easily hide articles, topics, or publishers they do not want to see.
Facebook relies on human curation rather than just algorithms to select original, long-form reporting for its Today's Stories section. Participating publishers must strictly follow integrity guidelines, avoid clickbait, and pass continuous fact-checking, with the initial test focusing on major metro areas like New York, LA, and Chicago.
