Facebook Plans Shift to Half Remote Workforce by 2030

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announces that the social media giant will permanently allow many of its 50,000 employees to work from home. Within the next five to ten years, Zuckerberg anticipates that approximately half of Facebook's workforce operates remotely. The company will start aggressively opening up remote hiring first in the United States and then internationally, because Zuckerberg believes it does not make sense to constrain hiring only to people who live near physical offices.
This gradual transition follows similar permanent remote work announcements from Twitter and Shopify during the coronavirus pandemic. Unlike some other tech companies, Facebook takes a slower approach, with Zuckerberg expecting only about 25 percent of the workforce to return to physical offices by the end of this year.
