Facebook Secretly Tests 'LOL' Meme Feed to Win Back Teens

Facebook secretly tests LOL, a meme-video feed aimed at winning back teenage users.

Facebook quietly builds LOL, a special feed full of funny videos and GIF-like clips designed to win back teenage users. The content divides into categories such as "For You," "Animals," "Fails," and "Pranks," pulling material directly from top meme Pages on the platform.

The product remains in private beta testing with around 100 high school students who sign non-disclosure agreements with parental consent for focus groups. This effort serves as a direct response to teenagers leaving Facebook after previous video initiatives like Watch, Lasso, and IGTV fail to become hits with younger demographics.

Facebook currently considers whether LOL functions best as a feature within the main app or as a standalone application. However, the company ultimately ceases development on LOL completely to prioritize its resources toward the Messenger Kids platform instead.
