Facebook Slips From Top 10 App Rankings As TikTok and BeReal Surge

New data shows Facebook is frequently dropping out of the Top 10 free iPhone apps in the U.S. as younger users flock to competitors like BeReal and TikTok.

New data reveals that Facebook struggles to maintain its position among the Top 10 free apps on the U.S. App Store this year. While the social network falls out of this elite ranking only a handful of times in 2021, app intelligence firms Sensor Tower and data.ai report that it drops out dozens of times in the first half of 2022 alone, sometimes remaining outside the Top 10 for over a month.

This downward shift in App Store charts occurs as younger consumers embrace newer social platforms like TikTok and BeReal. BeReal, a photo-sharing app popular with Gen Z, currently holds the number one spot for non-gaming apps in the U.S. and actively pushes Facebook down the rankings during its rapid ascent in April, May, and June.

Despite these ranking struggles, Facebook still boasts the highest number of monthly active users of any app. However, losing top chart positions to direct social networking competitors signals a significant challenge for the tech giant, as these rankings serve as a key indicator of a company's ability to attract new users.
