Facebook's internal NPE Team introduces Whale, a new experimental app designed for creating and sharing memes. The app provides a variety of tools that let users decorate their own photos, select images from their camera roll, or browse a library of stock images to generate funny content.

Whale offers several canvas layouts, custom text, emojis, and unique visual effects like laser eyes and vortex filters. Users also have the ability to cut out custom image stickers and use a freeform drawing tool, all without encountering in-app purchases or subscription fees.

The app is currently only available in Canada, following the same strategy as previous NPE Team releases like Aux and Bump. This limited rollout serves as a testing ground for Facebook as it attempts to compete with popular platforms like Snapchat and TikTok by rapidly experimenting with new social experiences.
