The flawed update, known as Channel File 291, rolls out at 04:09 UTC and impacts Windows 10 and later versions, while Mac and Linux systems remain completely unaffected due to their different kernel architectures. CrowdStrike identifies the issue and reverts the changes by 05:27 UTC, but the damage is already done. Approximately 8.5 million devices experience crashes, leading to severe operational halts across multiple critical sectors.
The widespread system failures create immediate chaos in industries such as healthcare, finance, and aviation. Airlines cancel 5,078 flights worldwide and face massive airport disruptions, with Delta Airlines still struggling to restore normal operations days later.
