Figma Stock Triples in NYSE Debut, Valuing Design Startup at $68 Billion
Figma surges 250% on its first day of trading, signaling a strong reopening of the tech IPO market. The design software company now boasts a market capitalization of nearly $68 billion.
Figma's stock more than triples in its New York Stock Exchange debut on Thursday, closing at $115.50 after the company priced its initial public offering at $33 per share. This massive 250% gain gives the design software company a market capitalization of almost $68 billion. The explosive first-day pop serves as the latest indication that the tech IPO market fully reopens following a multiyear lull that began in early 2022.
Under the leadership of 33-year-old CEO Dylan Field, Figma provides web-based software that allows people to collaborate on slide decks, digital whiteboards, and app designs. The company boasts over 13 million monthly users, with two-thirds of those users not working as traditional designers. Major tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Netflix, and Uber rely on Figma, and over 1,000 clients pay upward of $100,000 annually for the service.
Figma generates strong financial results, reporting preliminary second-quarter revenue between $247 million and $250 million, representing a 40% year-over-year growth. This public market success comes after Adobe's attempted $20 billion acquisition of Figma falls apart in 2023 due to regulatory concerns. Despite his stake in the company now being worth over $6 billion, Field reminds his team that the share price is just a moment in time and emphasizes staying focused on their core mission.
