Final Fantasy VII Remake Showcases Expanded Midgar Story and Tactical Combat
Square Enix reveals new gameplay details for Final Fantasy VII Remake, highlighting a revamped combat system that blends action and strategy. The highly anticipated PS4 title is currently available for pre-order ahead of its March 2020 release.
Square Enix provides a detailed look at Final Fantasy VII Remake during its E3 presentation, showing off beautifully recreated scenes featuring Cloud Strife and Aerith Gainsborough. Producer Yoshinori Kitase reveals that the first installment in this project spans two Blu-ray discs and significantly expands the story of Midgar. He also notes that this release serves as an accessible entry point for newcomers to the Final Fantasy VII universe.
The presentation highlights a revamped combat system that merges real-time action with classic mechanics. An updated ATB system works alongside an all-new Tactical Mode, which slows down time and allows players to select commands from a traditional menu. This dual approach empowers players to choose between a fast-paced action style using hot keys or a methodical, strategic approach during battles.
A gameplay demo displays an intense fight against the Scorpion Sentinel boss, demonstrating how players seamlessly switch between controlling Cloud and Barret. Director Tetsuya Nomura concludes the showcase by unveiling a first glimpse of Tifa Lockhart and announcing that pre-orders are now live on the PlayStation Store. Final Fantasy VII Remake is scheduled to launch worldwide on PS4 on March 3, 2020.
