First Bitcoin Futures ETF Sees Nearly $1B in First-Day Trading Volume

The newly launched ProShares Bitcoin Strategy Fund attracts $570 million in assets and nearly $1 billion in trading volume on its debut, signaling strong investor demand for regulated cryptocurrency access.

The first-ever exchange-traded fund backed by bitcoin futures makes a massive splash on its market debut. The ProShares Bitcoin Strategy Fund, trading under the ticker BITO on the New York Stock Exchange, grows its assets from an initial $20 million of seed capital to approximately $570 million by the end of the day. The fund also records about $1 billion in trading volume, making it the second-most heavily traded new ETF on record.

Retail investors drive much of this initial trading activity, as market analysts note a lack of large institutional block trades. Industry experts explain that many active market participants want exposure to cryptocurrency but prefer not to navigate digital asset exchanges directly. This new fund serves as a familiar bridge, allowing traditional stock market investors to bet on bitcoin through a regulated investment vehicle.

This strong debut occurs as bitcoin's price climbs toward its previous all-time high of $65,000. Market observers view the overwhelming demand for the new ETF as a highly bullish signal for the cryptocurrency space, suggesting that a significant amount of capital remains sidelined simply because crypto is difficult to access. Analysts expect this barrier to lower over time, potentially ushering even more capital into the digital asset market.
